Our Country Friends: A Novel
Recommended By
Mary Childs mentioned it as the last great book she read.
A non-fiction book by Louis Auchincloss.
A group of eight friends—Sasha Senderovsky and Masha Levin-Senderovsky, along with their eight-year-old daughter Natasha and friends Karen Cho, Vinod Mehta, Ed Kim, Dee Cameron, and a man known only as The Actor—come together on a sprawling estate in the Hudson Valley to quarantine from Covid in the early days of the pandemic. The book explores their emotional turmoil, betrayals, and searches for meaning in life, set against the backdrop of the virus outbreak. The novel is organized as a play in four acts but is written as a literary piece, with references to classic Russian literature and Anton Chekhov's 'Uncle Vanya'.
